More New Music

For those who like Spanish music, here is a treat for you. Maluma has released is newest single “HP”.  For those who may not know who Maluma is, his real name is Juan Luis Londoño Arias. He is a Columbian singer and songwriter, who focuses in the genre of reggaeton. Juan Luis formulated his stage name, Maluma, by combining the first two letters of his father, mother and sister’s first names. Maluma is currently signed with Sony Latin and Sony Music Colombia, creating several hits that made it to the top 10 on the Billboards Top Latin Hits. He has also been nominated and won a Latin Grammy Award and two Latin American Music Awards. Maluma has easily become one of my favorite Latin artists to listen and I have been enjoying his new single but it not the only song that I have been enjoying. Here are some of my top songs at the moment.

1)      LBD – Becky G
-        Becky G is an American singer, songwriter and actress.  She started on her rise to fame by posting covers of popular songs at the time online. When Becky G was first starting out most of her music was sung in English such “Shower” and “Can’t Stop Dancin’”. However, in recent years she has embraced her Latin heritage and has become a rising star in the Latin music community. The song LBD is mostly sung in English and is basically a song of empowerment. We know the saying that you feel you best in a little black dress, and the lyrics are playing off of the energy.
2)      My Boy – Billie Eilish
   -        “My Boy” is the third song off of Billie Eilish’s first EP titled don’t smile at me that was released in July of 2017. In this song she looks takes you through a failing relationship with a boy that she knows is lying to her. This song has an upbeat tempo to it and sounds a little different from her more recent songs. Like always, her brother FINNEAS is the producer behind this track.
3)      Shot Clock – Ella Mai
-        Ella Mai is a British R&B singer and songwriter, known for her single “Boo’d Up”. She released her self- titled debut album in October of 2018 with “Shot Clock” being  the seventh track. In this song, we hear Ella Mai telling her partner that they should step up and catch up to where she is in the relationship, or she will have to leave. She says that a lot of people become content with a place in a relationship, expecting the person to be there forever but they may not be, don’t take people for granted.
4)      Mile High- James Blake feat. Travis Scott and Metro Boom
-        James Blake is an English singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and recording producer. He has helped with the production work for many artists like Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé and Frank Ocean as well as making his own music. The song “Mile High” can have many meaning depending on the listener. You can think of it as joining the “mile high club” or to can take it as a metaphor for being able to travel in a luxurious form. But like every song, it is up to interpretation.
5)      100 Bad Days – AJR
-        AJR is an American indie pop band made up of three brothers, Alex, Jack and Ryan Met, who are all multi-instrumentalist. They would be considered a DIY pop group because they write, produce and mix all of their own music in the living room of their apartment. AJR is known for their songs such as “Weak”, “Burn the House Down”, and “Sober Up” that have all made it to various playlist in Spotify. The song “100 Bad Day” is about turning negative events in your life  that you may think is the worst thing ever, into entertaining stories that you can tell. When you do this you can have a positive view on whatever hurdles life may throw at you.

A Blast from the Past

We all enjoy the new music that seems to come out every week, but do you ever take the time to revisit some of the hits from past. Over the years there have been many hits and anthems that we sometimes forget about them. They’ve ranged from hip hop and rap, to R&B to pop and much more. It’s good to take a walk down memory lane every now and then and listen to a few of the old songs that made you feel something. People tend start going to the gym again, switch up their diets to become healthier and incorporate new habits that benefit their overall health. However, a new year also means that there will be new music from our favorite artists coming out as well. Music has always been a method to bring people together and has a long history of creating an energy that makes people feel something. Since music is a big part of my life and the lives of many others, here are my top five songs at the moment. 1)       Glory Sound Prep Album - Jon Bellion -         Although this first mention is not a song, I personally could not pick a song from this album that would be considered my favorite. Jon Bellion is a talented arti...
