What's New?

Solange is back! We know Solange as Beyoncé’s sister but she is also a singer, songwriter, record producer and actress. This year she has released her first album in three years called “When I Get Home”. This albums contains nineteen tracks including “Things I Imagined”, “Down with the Clique”, “Dreams”, “Sound of Rain” and her single “Almeda”.  With new music come favorite songs, so here are my top five songs at the moment.

1)      Last Hurrah- Bebe Rexha
-        Bebe Rexha is an American singer-song writer and record producer. She has assisted in the song writing process for many artists like Selena Gomez and Nick Jonas. Her newest single “Last Hurrah” was released on February 15th as a promo for her upcoming album. BeBe Rexha’s message behind “Last Hurrah” is saying that this is going to be the last night of doing everything that is wrong or bad for her. She tweeted that this song was inspired by her friend who was supposed to be on a diet and her husband caught her eating cake. When he asked about the diet she said that is her last hurrah.

2)      Never Go Back- Dennis Lloyd
-        Dennis Lloyd is an Israeli musician, producer, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Dennis Lloyd has been successful in many countries, charting in the United Kingdom, Germany and the United States and even going platinum in Switzerland, Canada, and Germany. His newest single “Never Go Back” was released on February 15th and has become a song that I would listen to on repeat. This song is a about a love that has gone awry. In an interview he said that he wrote this song after a breaking up with his ex when he was in a lonely and depressing time, with it being a conversation between him and her.

3)      Almost (Sweet Music)-  Hozier
-        Hozier is an Irish musician, singer and songwriter. He is known for his songs including “Take Me To Church” and “Work Song”. Hozier’s most recently released song “Almost (Sweet Music)” was dropped on January 16th along with a music video announcement for his album “Wasteland, Bay!” which included the track list and the release date. “Almost (Sweet Music)” is a song to pay respect to many of the great jazz artist that came before him and even referenced some them within the song itself.

4)      Rule the World- 2 Chainz and Ariana Grande
-        2 Chainz is an Atlanta native rapper, songwriter, and media personality. He is known for various hits including “I’m Different”, “It’s A Vibe” and “We Own It” which was featured in the Fast and Furious franchise, Fast and Furious 6. As for this this song “Rule the World”, it is a single from his newest album “Rap or Go to the League”. The meaning behind this song is the love that he has for his significant other. 2 Chainz is not alone in this song as it features Ariana Grande. Although the two had their differences earlier this year, they came together to create a remix to Ariana’s “7 Rings” and 2 Chainz’ “Rule the World”.

5)      I Don’t Even Know You Anymore- Netsky, Bazzi, Lil Wayne
-        Netsky is a Belgian musician, producer and DJ. I personally had not heard of him until this song appeared on my playlist. This song features the Bazzi, an American singer-songwriter known for his songs “Mine” and “Beautiful” and the world known Lil Wayne. The song talks about the feeling that you get when you feel that they person that you love and know has changed into a person that you don’t even recognize. Ironically, this was released on Valentine’s Day this year which contrasts the lyrics of this song.

A Blast from the Past

We all enjoy the new music that seems to come out every week, but do you ever take the time to revisit some of the hits from past. Over the years there have been many hits and anthems that we sometimes forget about them. They’ve ranged from hip hop and rap, to R&B to pop and much more. It’s good to take a walk down memory lane every now and then and listen to a few of the old songs that made you feel something. With that being said, here are a couple of some of my throwback hits. 1)       Find Your Love - Drake -         Aubrey Graham better known as Drake is a Canadian rapper, singer, actor, songwriter, producer, and entrepreneur. Grammy Season

We recently celebrated the 61st Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday, February 10th. This year it was hosted by fifteen-time Grammy Award winner Alicia Keys, but like many other award shows it had its highs and lows. The 61st Annual Grammy Awards was also a big night for women. There were many female nominations with several of them winning for their categories. Cardi B made history by becoming the first female to win the Best Rap Album category. There was a Dolly Parton tribute where Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Kacey Musgraves, Maren Morris, and Little Big Town all came out and sang some of Dolly Parton’s hits. Dolly Parton herself came out to sing with them as the crowd enjoyed some of her classics. There was also a tribute to the late Aretha Franklin also known as the “Queen of Soul”. Fantasia Barrino-Taylor, Andra Day and Yolanda Adams came together to perform one of her hit songs “A Natural Woman (You Make Me Feel Like)", which was a huge success bringing the audience to their feet...
